. checking out the inner loop in virginia. not seeing problems from 95 to 66. and then finally 86 eastbound if you are make -- 66 eastbound if you are making your way to the beltway everything is clear there. >> thank you. >>> it is labor day. so just about every government office is closed except for a certain dmv offices in virginia. they will be opening in a couple of showers. kristin fisher is live with the reason. >> reporter: good morning, angie. i doubt that a trip to the dmv is how most people want to spend they are labor day weekend but if you are one of the thousands affected by these cent computer failures it may not be a bad idea. this location in alexandria is one of 14 locations across the state that will be open this labor day. other locations, include leesburg, woodbridge and fair oaks. the alexandria, leesburg and woodbridge locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the fair oaks location from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. the reason for all of these extended hours is because virginia's dmv is trying to dig itself out of a backlog of driver's license and identity card tra

at stories making headlines this morning. a lorton, virginia, community mourning the loss of a young mother and two of her children. they were killed in a house fire yesterday. 24-year-old ally anderson was able to save three of her five kids by lowering them down to her uncle on the ground. >>> theresa lewis will be executed in virginia tonight. the first punishment of this type for a woman in the commonwealth in a century. she was sentenced to death for providing sex and money to two men who killed her husband and her stepson back in october of 2002. so far the governor has decided not to grant clemency. lewis is scheduled to be put to death by ion at 9:00 p.m. at a correctional facility in jarrett. >>> gray and michelle rhee scheduled to meet. it will be a closed discussion at city hall at noon today. gray has said that her future in the position would lie heavily based on this conversation today. >>> 7:16 right now. got some city business. now some business that all of us are going to want to listen to. >> hot and humid. we're going to have to open up the pools again. >> why do they shu

at the charlestown race track in virginia. dozens of horses couldn't be saved. >> reporter: 2 horses are con -- 27 heres are confirmed dead and investigators are still shifting through the charred wreckage looking for more. >> you people need to move! the roof is on fire! >> reporter: 5 a.m. yesterday morning a horrible scene. charlestown casino visitors and neighbors saw flames shooting up to 50 feet in the air. this is cell phone video from one of them. trapped inside four separate barns, dozens of thoroughbred race horses. onlookers trying to pull them out. >> you talk to them and let them hear your voice. other horses knew you were there. they wanted freed also. it eats you. >> reporter: 26 horse whrs saved -- horses were saved, but 27 were not. >> they were both laying right there deceased. >> reporter: dozens of horses gone means countless money lost. >> they become part of your family, too. you get very lay taxed to them. it's kind of hard. you lose a lot of medication, equipment. there's a lot that goes with race horses. >> it's an emotional loss. most of these people will never recover. >
